North Pole South Pole

North Pole South Pole describes the Arctic and Antarctic polar regions. It discusses the poles, their seasons, inhabitants (or lack thereof), animals living there, etc. There’s a heavy science aspect to the book with pictures of spinning globes and explanations of why it’s so cold there, why it’s night half the year and day the rest of the time, etc. The book is nicely illustrated with a variety polar scenes, animals, and people.

Thomas made a valiant effort at reading this book, esp. since it had a number of words he wasn’t very familiar with. We stopped frequently (and paused the recording) so I could explain some of the concepts to him and his brothers, like the old ball/earth and flashlight/sun discussion.

I’d give this book a low insomnia rating: Thomas read pretty well and he also had hiccups in the beginning, which won’t help induce sleep! :-)
