Poppleton and Friends

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

Poppleton is a pig, a simple and slightly simple-minded pig. There are three stories in this book. First he goes to the sea. Next he discovers lint (yes, lint). Last, he suffers while eating grapefruit.
Pretty ordinary stuff that even the wonderful drawings of Mark Teague can’t liven up completely. I asked Thomas whether he liked [...]

Minnie and Moo meet Frankenswine

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Another cool Cazet book. Like its predecessor the boys and I enjoyed this story. Minnie and Moo are funny and the story gave me an opportunity to recount an (abbreviated) version Mary Shelley’s classic horror story. The boys dig monsters.

The First Thanksgiving

A well-written book covering the arrival of the Pilgrims to North America and their early life there. There’s lots to talk about and I’m always happy to see Thomas taking an interest in history.
Another long narration, this should also be a good podcast to go to bed with…

Polka Dot Pox

Monday, March 20th, 2006

This is a cool little book about a girl who makes up a story for her little brother. The illustrations are a mixture of photos and drawings, which works surprisingly well and gives the book an edgy sort of look. The boys and I liked this one.
Oh boy, this reading rivals Teach Us, Amelia Bedelia [...]
